When you need it

Ride-on toys become fun around 12 months, once toddlers are steady enough to sit and push with their feet. They're great for burning energy and building leg strength, and most kids are ready for a balance bike or tricycle by around 36 months.

What to look for

Choose a ride-on with a low seat so feet reach the floor flat, and a wide wheelbase for stability. Check the weight limit and that wheels are smooth and quiet on floors. A storage compartment under the seat is a fun bonus. Avoid models with small parts or sharp edges.

Ride-On Toy: common questions

Do I need a ride-on toy?
Not essential, but many toddlers love them. A push walker or wagon can do a similar job. If you have space indoors or a safe outdoor area, a ride-on toy is a great way to keep little ones moving.
When does a baby need a ride-on toy?
From around 12 months, when toddlers are walking, until about 3 years.
