When you need it

A sit-to-stand push walker is most useful from around 9 months, when babies are pulling up and cruising along furniture. It helps support those first wobbly steps, and once your child walks confidently, often around 18 months, it becomes more of a toy than a tool.

What to look for

Look for a wide, stable base and wheels with some resistance, or an adjustable speed control, so it doesn't roll away too quickly on smooth floors. The handle should be at a comfortable height and sturdy. A detachable activity panel adds play value for babies who aren't walking yet. Follow the manufacturer's age guidance and supervise near stairs.

Sit-to-Stand Push Walker: common questions

Do I need a sit-to-stand push walker?
Not really. Many babies learn to walk perfectly well cruising along a sofa or holding your hands. A push walker is a nice-to-have for babies who love to move, but it won't make them walk sooner.
When does a baby need a sit-to-stand push walker?
From around 9 months, when babies are pulling up, until they're walking well, often around 18 months.
