When you need it
A steering wheel toy becomes a hit once babies sit up confidently and love copying grown-ups, usually from around 6 months. It stays fun until about 18 months, when many toddlers prefer walking, scooting or more complex play.
What to look for
Choose a wheel that clamps firmly to the bumper bar or frame and does not wobble when your child yanks on it. Lights and sounds are fun, but look for a volume control or mute switch for everyone's sanity. The battery compartment should close with a screw. It should be made of sturdy, wipeable plastic with nothing small that could break off.
