When you need it

Soft absorbent bibs help from the newborn stage for milk dribbles and become even more useful during teething drool, often starting around 3 to 6 months. They stay handy through about 24 months, alongside wipe-clean bibs once solid food gets messy.

What to look for

Choose a soft cotton or bamboo front with a waterproof backing layer, so drool does not soak through to the shirt underneath. Snap closures are harder for babies to pull off than hook-and-loop strips and hold up better in the wash. A bandana shape sits neatly under the chin for drool, while larger bibs cover more for feeds. Make sure they are machine washable and dry without losing their shape.

Absorbent Bibs: common questions

Do I need an absorbent bibs?
They are a nice-to-have rather than a must, though they can cut down on outfit changes during heavy drool phases. A burp cloth tucked under the chin does a similar job for occasional use.
When does a baby need an absorbent bibs?
Some babies need one from the start for milk dribbles, and many more once teething drool kicks in. Always take bibs off before sleep.
