When you need it
A formula dispenser is useful from birth for any family that formula feeds or combination feeds and spends time away from home. It stays handy through about 12 months, while formula is still part of your baby's diet, and some parents reuse it for snacks afterward.
What to look for
Look for separate compartments that each hold one full feed, plus a narrow spout that pours cleanly into a bottle without spilling powder everywhere. BPA-free plastic that is dishwasher-safe is easiest to keep clean and completely dry before refilling. Make sure each compartment holds enough powder for your baby's usual feed size, which grows over the months. A lid that twists or snaps shut firmly keeps powder dry inside a busy diaper bag.
Formula Dispenser: common questions
- Do I need a formula dispenser?
- Not essential, but it makes bottle prep on outings much easier and less messy. Small clean containers, or measuring powder into dry bottles and adding water later, work just as well for occasional trips.
- When does a baby need a formula dispenser?
- From birth, whenever you need to make formula bottles away from home, such as at daycare, on errands or while traveling.
