When you need it
A toilet step stool becomes useful from around 18 months, when toddlers want to reach the sink and start potty training. It stays useful until about 5 years and often longer, as kids keep washing hands and brushing teeth on their own.
What to look for
Look for a non-slip top and rubber feet so it stays put on wet floors. Check the height and size, and whether it fits around your toilet base. A sturdy, wide platform feels more secure for little feet. Two-step designs work well for higher sinks.
