When you need it
A travel potty seat becomes useful once your child is potty training and you are out of the house, often from around 2 years. It remains useful until about 5 years, when most kids can manage public toilets confidently.
What to look for
Look for a seat that folds compactly, fits a range of toilet shapes and has a carry bag. Some portable potties can be used on their own with disposable liners, which helps on road trips. Check that it is easy to clean and stable when in use. Choose something your child can practice with at home first.
Travel Potty Seat: common questions
- Do I need a travel potty seat?
- It is not essential, but it can make outings during potty training much easier. Some parents just hold their child on the public toilet. A travel seat helps if your child feels nervous on big toilets.

- A child needs a travel potty seat once potty training starts and you are out and about, often around 2 years. It stays useful until public toilets feel easy.
