When you need it

A water table becomes fun from around 12 months, when toddlers can stand at a table and splash with cups and scoops. It's a hands-on, screen-free way to spend warm afternoons outside, and many kids enjoy it until around 60 months, especially when you add sand.

What to look for

Look for a sturdy base that won't tip when kids lean on it and a height suited to your child. A drain plug makes emptying easy, and removable parts are simpler to clean. Some tables include a sand side or a lid. Always supervise water play closely, even in shallow water, and empty the table after every use.
