When you need it
A Play-Doh activity set suits kids from around 30 months, when they can use rollers, cutters and extruders on their own. Themed sets like kitchens or vehicles add a story to dough play, and many preschoolers enjoy them until around 60 months.
What to look for
Choose a set with a theme your child loves and tools sized for small hands. Simpler sets with fewer pieces are easier for younger kids. Check that molds and tools are sturdy, easy to clean and store in a box or tub. Remember that dough contains wheat, and supervise younger children.
Play-Doh Activity Set: common questions
- Do I need a play-doh activity set?
- This is a splurge rather than a necessity. Cookie cutters, a rolling pin and plastic knives from your kitchen can add plenty of variety to plain dough. If your child already loves Play-Doh, a themed set can make play feel new again.
- When does a baby need a play-doh activity set?
- Usually from around 2 and a half years, once kids can use tools.
