When you need it
Bodysuits are useful from the newborn days and quickly become the backbone of a baby wardrobe. Most babies wear them daily until around 2 years, when many toddlers switch to separate tops and pants, especially during potty training.
What to look for
Look for soft, breathable cotton, snaps that line up easily and an envelope neckline that stretches over your baby's head (and lets you pull it down during a blowout). Side-snap or kimono styles are easier with a newborn. Check that seams and labels feel soft, and wash new clothes before first wear. Buy a mix of short and long sleeves in a couple of sizes, since babies grow fast.
