When you need it

A puddle suit becomes useful from around 12 months, when toddlers start walking and want to explore outdoors in all weather. It stays useful until about 5 years for rainy walks, muddy playgrounds and daycare outdoor time.

What to look for

Look for fully waterproof fabric, taped seams and elastic cuffs that seal over boots and gloves. Reflective details help on gray days, and a hood that stays put is useful. A roomy fit lets you layer clothes underneath. Check that it is easy to wash and dry.

Rain & Puddle Suit: common questions

Do I need a rain & puddle suit?
It depends on your climate and how much time you spend outside. In rainy areas many parents find a puddle suit essential, and many daycares ask for one. Otherwise rain pants and a jacket may be enough.
When does a baby need a rain & puddle suit?
A child needs a puddle suit once they walk and play outdoors in wet weather, around 12 months. It stays useful through the preschool years.
